COSTA RICA HIT BY MAJOR QUAKE

A 6.2 magnitude earthquake hit north of the Central Valley this afternoon at 1:21 p.m. and set streets and buildings in motion, according to A.M. Costa Rica. The quake endured for at least 20 seconds and was followed by a number of aftershocks, some of which were felt.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the 6.1 magnitude temblor was centered 22 miles (35 kilometers) northwest of the capital of San Jose in the early afternoon, near the Poas Volcano national park.

The quake’s depth was measured at 28 miles (35 kilometers)

Only a brief, mild tremor was felt in the Puerto Viejo area. All roads leading into the Caribbean coastal area are open.

Mostly sunny today. The Central Valley was hit with a 6.2 magnitude earthquake this afternoon. We only felt a mild tremor here in the Puerto Viejo area.
